2002 Pacific Life Open: A Whale of a Success

NEWPORT BEACH, CA (March 17, 2002) --- The Pacific Life Open, a Tennis Masters Series event, finished its two week run at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden today, with Lleyton Hewitt, the number one men's tennis player in the world, defeating Tim Henman. Earlier, Daniela Hantuchova defeated Martina Hingis for the women's title. This was the first year of event title sponsorship for Pacific Life.

Mediaspot, Pacific Life's media agency since 1992, developed and brought the title sponsorship opportunity to Pacific Life. Pacific Life is the first title sponsor of both the men's and women's events at Indian Wells, one of only six tennis tournaments worldwide featuring both the top men's and women's tennis players.

In addition to Pacific Life's major on-site presence, the tournament included 32 hours of national television coverage - 30 hours on ESPN and espn2, and two hours on ABC-TV for the men's final. This year's tournament attendance grew 2.5% to over 213,000.
